EP 4 - Countdown to 'I Do': Inside Our Wedding Planning Adventure
Hey everyone! I’m so excited to bring you a special bonus episode of Summer School. Today, I'm joined by my fiancé, Jacob Allison, as we dive into the whirlwind of our wedding planning journey. We’re in the midst of packing for our big day, so I thought I'd give you an inside scoop on everything—from our engagement story to our spontaneous Vegas elopement.
"How did you and Jake get engaged?
Funny story—Jake and I met at a wedding. I was the photographer and he was the DJ. Fast forward to a year and a half later, we were deeply in love and went on our first family vacation together to Chelan, Washington. Jake proposed during a subsequent family trip to the same idyllic place. It was perfect, filled with memories aplenty and even involved a mysterious stranger named Jorge, who we met skateboarding. That trip sealed our engagement and marked a beautiful start to our journey.
"Why did you choose to elope in Vegas?"
The decision to elope in Vegas was both a practical and whimsical choice. Being in the wedding industry, we craved a celebration that felt intimate and low-key, avoiding the production-heavy vibe that larger weddings often have. Vegas offered a unique, free-spirited atmosphere that matched our vision perfectly, plus it was a fair midpoint for our families on opposite coasts. It just felt right—a little out of the box, but full of potential for fun and meaningful moments.
"How did the planning process go?"
As a wedding photographer, planning my own wedding has been quite an adventure, to say the least. We’ve changed photographers a few times and went through some venue hiccups, but each twist and turn led us to where we’re meant to be. We’re embracing a budget-friendly approach, trading services with friends in the industry, like Jess from DeWitt Planning, who is bringing our whimsical, mushroom-filled floral vision to life.
"What are you most excited about for the wedding?"
We’re incredibly excited for the vows. Although they make us nervous, sharing our personal promises in front of our immediate family is something we both look forward to. Jake and I realized how much we value tradition in this untraditional setting, and the ceremony itself feels like the highlight of our celebration. We’re also eager to cherish the post-wedding dinner at Peyote, a memorable dinner packed with heartfelt connections and, of course, excellent food—including beets, a new favorite of ours thanks to a serendipitous meal there.
"What’s next after the wedding?"
After saying "I do," we're not heading off to a typical honeymoon destination. Instead, we’re diving head-first into our great adventure: moving to Los Angeles. Driven by Jake’s music career and an openness to new chapters, we’ll embark on this transition right from the wedding, embracing whatever the City of Angels holds for our future.
